A “HEARTBREAKING” update has been issued on a skeletal puppy that was found dumped at a Wirral beauty spot.

On Saturday (March 23) a puppy, who was found by a member of the public in Port Sunlight River Park in Bromborough, was brought into the Friends of Birkenhead Kennels rescue centre.

The puppy, named Shadrach by kennel volunteers, had mutilated ears and was so emaciated that he was “too weak to stand” and staff could not determine his breed.

Despite being rushed to the vet where he was examined, given treatment and a special meal plan the kennels issued a “heartbreaking” update on Wednesday, March 27.

A spokesperson for Friends of Birkenhead Kennels said: “Shadrach had a vet visit today and sadly it wasn`t good news.

“Because of the extent of the neglect and malnutrition, he had numerous health issues which were beyond making him comfortable, due to his welfare the vet advised that we say goodbye to this gorgeous boy and we let him go this afternoon.

“He passed very peacefully surrounded by love in the arms of our volunteer and staff.

“This whole thing has been heartbreaking but we are glad he had a few days of love and kindness when he needed it most.

“Thank you so much to everyone for your support, kind words and donations.

“Please respect that staff will not be answering any comments as this has been very upsetting for all of us involved, thank you.”
