THOUSANDS descended on Wirral over the weekend to take part in the annual Egg Run.

This year’s tribute ride out took place on Sunday, March 17 and saw thousands of bikers riding through the peninsula’s town and villages collecting Easter eggs and raising cash for charities.

Motorcyclists followed a route starting at 11am at The Dips in New Brighton before finishing at Claremont Farm in Bebington.

The event, which is a tribute to the original Wirral Egg Run, which was cancelled in 2013, raises cash for local charities and collects Easter eggs for underprivileged children in the area.

Hundreds of residents could be seen lining the streets as bikers drove through Wallasey, Moreton, Hoylake, West Kirby, and Heswall.

Organiser of the Wirral Egg Run, Stephen Paul Kelly, said: "Well another Egg Run complete and what a turn out.

"We don’t know how many bikes attended but seemed like more than previous years. The charities are counting up the donations and the eggs are being distributed this week.

“We will publish the totals next weekend. As always everything was done for zero cost and anything raised goes to the good causes Reading the Facebook posts it feels like we had a lot of first time riders which is good as this will keep the run going for many more years.

“Was also nice to see so many children at the Dips and on route, including our regular supporters who seem to grow so much in a year.

“What was the stand out thing for this year? For me it was the amount of people waving us on along the route. The weather wasn’t great but despite this we had more than usual supporting us.

“I get the honour of leading the run and all the happy faces young and old waving us one just make the whole day worth it.

“Also Nice to see Tony Twotellys decorating his bike for change, Smurf found himself a new chick and Stu looked to comfortable in his Leprechaun suit. So many people help and support us every year its impossible to mention everyone.

“Whatever your role be it rider, pillion, egg collector, traffic marshal or general public waving us on, this event wouldn’t be the same with out you.

“We must mention Claremont Farm for giving us and end point, HSS for the temporary toilets and Barriers to keep us all save at the Farm Thanks you all for the support and any rumours of a Halloween run are cannot be confirmed yet.

“You never know some mad scouse bloke may decided it’s a good idea, once he gets over the Egg Run tiredness lol Thanks and see you all again next year."
