EMERGENCY services were called to reports of an “unexploded bomb” found in New Brighton yesterday morning (Tuesday, March 12).
At around 10.05am Merseyside Police received a report that a device had been found near The Dips on Coastal Drive.
Merseyside Police, North West Ambulance Service, and Merseyside Fire and Rescue all attended the scene.
The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was also in attendance.

During the time of the incident, a police cordon and road closures were put in place and people were advised to "avoid the area".
Merseyrail trains were also affected with services cancelled between New Brighton and Birkenhead North and rail replacement buses in operation.
Just after 2pm a bomb disposal van could be seen at the scene and a red box was put in the back of the van.

People were asked to move away from the scene before the bomb was detonated.

Following the incident, a second bomb was then found in a property in Price Street in Birkenhead.
At around 10.40am, police received a report that the device was inside a property. The Army’s EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team) attended to safely remove the device and the scene was then stood down.
