AN 83-year-old man has died after he was hit by a BMW driver in Bebington.

At 7.40pm on Monday, March 4 police received reports that a man had been hit a car at the junction of Teehey Lane and Roland Avenue in Bebington.

The man had sustained a serious head injury and was taken to hospital.

He passed away in hospital yesterday (Wednesday, March 6) and his family are being supported by family liaison officers.

The car involved in the collision, a black BMW 1 Series, was recovered a short time later in Sandymount Drive in Bebington.

A 23-year-old man from the Tranmere area, who was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision, has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
 
Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy said: “Our condolences go out to the family of the man, and we will continue to support them as our investigation continues.
 
“We’re still appealing to anyone who saw the BMW between Teehey Lane and Sandymount Drive to contact us as soon as possible. We would also like to trace anyone who believes they captured the car on a dashcam or has any other information which could assist our investigation.”
