A PERSON was taken to hospital after being rescued from the River Mersey.

Emergency services were called to Egremont Promenade at around 3.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, March 6) after reports of a person in the water.

Fire crews from Wallasey, the Search and Rescue Team and Marine Fire One Rescue boat were involved in the rescue.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said: “Fire crews donned water kit and monitored from shore at Egremont Promenade as the Marine Rescue Unit Crew threw lines to the casualty in the water from the Marine Fire One Rescue boat and were able to rescue the person from the water, conscious and breathing.

“The casualty was taken by rescue boat to the Pier Head, Liverpool, where the crew liaised with Coastguard, North West Ambulance Service, Merseyside Police and the MFRS Search and Rescue Team to ensure the safe removal of the casualty to land and onward medical attention for cold water shock.

“The casualty was then taken to hospital by road for treatment. Crews left the scene at 4.06pm.”
