AN Ellesmere Port man who threatened a former partner with a knife and stole a mobile phone from another has been jailed.

Ryan Jameson, 30, of Grafton Road, pleaded guilty to charges of affray and burglary at Chester Crown Court on Wednesday, February 21.

Returning the following day for sentencing, Honorary Recorder of Chester Judge Steven Everett jailed Jameson – appearing via videolink from HMP Altcourse – for a total of 13 months.

The court heard Jameson had been in a relationship with one woman for four years, and that had ended with the couple having had a child in that time. Jameson had also been in a short-term relationship with another woman, and the court heard those two women were on friendly terms with each other.

Prosecuting, Andrew McInnes said it was at about 12.20am on September 2, 2023 when Jameson knocked on the door of the ex-partner with whom he had had a short relationship, asking to come into the house.

At that stage there was no concern, but once Jameson came in he began "acting strangely", asking where the woman was hiding his other ex-partner. He also saw child's toys on the floor and accused her of stealing them from his own child's toys.

Jameson was asked to leave and he did so, but he returned moments later and began looking in various rooms, as well as the washing basket, trying to locate his ex-partner.

He then produced a four-inch lock knife and put it towards the shoulder of the woman. Told to the put the knife away, Jameson replied: "Why are you laughing at me, where is she?"

There was concern Jameson might attack as he had recently been sectioned under the mental health act, the court heard.

After making threats to smash windows, Jameson left the property and police were contacted.

The defendant then arrived at the home of his longer-term ex-partner, at 1.20am, and climbed up a drainpipe to enter the house through a window. He then stole her mobile phone.

The woman from the first address had rung the woman from the second address to warn her what had happened, but found the defendant answering the call.

Jameson was later arrested at his home address, initially refusing to leave his room and refusing legal advice or the chance to be interviewed in custody.

He had 15 previous convictions for 22 offences, including affray, burglary, theft and battery against his former partner.

Defending, Kay Driver said Jameson had a "long-standing history of anxiety and ADHD", and had anti-social personality disorder and paranoia, which was not helped by his use of drugs.

Judge Everett accepted that the defendant's mental health issues played a part in his "very strange" behaviour, but added Jameson needed to "get a grip" on them. He told him if he did not: "You are going to be back before the courts and spending your life in and out of custody."

He added Jameson had stolen his ex's mobile phone "to check up on her".

As well as the 13-month prison term, a restraining order was imposed preventing Jameson contacting either victim, apart from childcare matters via social services and/or solicitors.

The lock knife was to be forfeited and destroyed.
