MERSEYSIDE artist Paul Curtis has launched his first exhibition at the Royal Liver Buildings.

Paul Curtis, the Liverpool street artist responsible for the mural of HMS Birkenhead featured on the side of Gallagher’s in Birkenhead and his mural known to many as, “The Wings”, is hosting his first-ever public exhibition in the very place that inspired his popular artwork, The Royal Liver Building.

Following its launch, Paul has welcomed multiple groups from across the region to his exhibition at The Royal Liver Building including students from Wirral Met College.

On Thursday (February 15) he held a Q&A with students.

Paul said: “It was great to chat to meet the students from Wirral Met. I really think that art should be for all and being at the venue every day means I get to chat to people and not only do they get to ask me questions but I can find out what they think about the street out that is out there.”

The exhibition which features a wall dedicated to a selection of Paul’s work in Wirral has attracted large crowds since its opening on February 9.

Paul is creating three new works at the venue. One large piece is being created on a temporary wall that will remain on the ground floor for the public to view. A smaller scale canvas will be auctioned and a final free standing painting will be the first prize in a draw. All proceeds from both the auction and draw being equally spilt between Alder Hey Children’s Charity and The Whitechapel centre.

Sarah Edwards, Manager for Creative Arts, Music and Media at Wirral Met said: “It was a fantastic experience for our art students to visit this wonderful exhibition and to have the opportunity to have a Q&A with Paul, who is a real inspiration as a local artist.”

The “In One Place” exhibition will run daily from 10 – 5pm at The Royal Liver Building until February 23. Entry is free and you can buy prize draw tickets in person at the event or via Paul’s website at paulcurtisartwork.com.
