IT’S National Pizza Day – fancy picking up a slice of the Italian favourite?

Or how about making your own?

We’ve got some top tips from an award-winning pizza venue on Bromborough Village Road – Pizza Mamma.

Today, Friday, February 9, is National Pizza Day - a whole day dedicated to everyone's favourite cheesy Italian treat.

The cheesy topped dough that can be eaten hot or cold is a favourite when it comes to ordering fast food.

Do you go for a traditional margherita pizza with cheese and tomato or do you like extra toppings on every slice?

Last year, as part of our Best of 2023 campaign, we searched for Wirral's Best for Pizza venue.

Emre Bomboz clearly has all the ingredients for success as Pizza Mamma topped the table with customers regularly giving the venue five-star reviews.

Pizza Mamma was already an established business when Emre took over ownership in 2019, having moved from London to Wirral.

Customers say the food is made fresh and in house with “care and pride put into every meal”.

One happy visitor said: “Pizza Mamma is amazing with great food and great service – highly recommended.”

The 24-year-old is still serving up perfect pizzas to hungry customers.

Emre said: “In our area, what makes pizza so popular is the care and passion put into making it.

“I’ve made notes over the years and always ask people how they like their pizzas - from crispy bases to super thin bases we do it all but always bring out the same taste!

“Often, the most annoying thing about a pizza is when you go to take a bite and you pull off the whole top end of the pizza because of the amount of cheese on top or the under cooked base.

“With us, you’re always guaranteed to have a soft and crispy base every time.

“That is why our customers always choose us for their pizzas - not to mention our secret pizza sauce that adds that extra knock to the taste buds!”

Here are Emre’s top three tips:

  1. For a good pizza always cook a little longer than you think to crisp up the base.
  2. Don’t overload the pizza with too much cheese otherwise it overpowers the taste of the other toppings.
  3. If you can’t eat a pizza fresh or have leftover pizza, be sure to let the pizza breath through a box with air holes, otherwise the base turns from crispy to soggy.
