RESIDENTS at a Wirral care home tucked into a delicious free meal, thanks to the owner of a fish and chip shop.

Boris Bektashev and his partner Tatyana took over SelFish on High Street in Bromborough in 2022.

Throughout their time running the chippy, the couple have helped the community in a variety of ways.

In June 2023, they were selling chips for 50p to their customers as a way of helping tackle the cost-of-living crisis and in September they sponsored junior football team, U9s Allport Hawks Junior Football Club.

At the beginning of December, Boris and Tatyana decided to run a competition to give a care home or nursing home a free meal for all residents.

They received nominations on Facebook and announced their winner as Safe Harbour Care Home in Bebington.

On Wednesday (January 31) the residents received their free meals, which the care home say "went down a treat".

Holly Dooley HR manager said: "We were so happy to win the competition with SelFish on Facebook, this is down to so many of our wonderful team, relatives and social media followers for voting for us.

"A massive thank you to Boris and team for their generosity."

Katy Dalziel, Activities Coordinator, added: "Community spirit means so much to our independent, family-run home.

"Our ladies and gents have thoroughly enjoyed their evening meal and the kitchen team has enjoyed a more relaxed evening thanks to SelFish."
