TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Wirral Radio presenter who has died, aged 88.

Johnny Kennedy, from Liverpool, was known by many for presenting Wirral Radio and appearing at the Floral Pavilion.

Known by many as 'JK', Johnny started a new show on 194 Radio City in the 1980s, Bride of the Week.

He went on to present on City Gold and then Magic 1548. He also has presented shows on Sandgrounder Radio, Dune FM and 7 Waves 92.1.

As well as his work on radio, JK was also a comedian, vocalist and fundraiser.

In a public social media post, Johnny's son, John Kennedy, paid tribute to his dad.

He wrote: "My dad, 88, passed away unexpectedly this afternoon.

"He died peacefully, in no pain, after a short but serious illness that lasted only a few hours.

"He’s not been at his best of late, but we had no idea he had so little time left".

The post went on to describe Johnny as a "talented man" and a "great comedian".

It continued: "Rather than mourn his loss, I will celebrate his life and those who knew him well can help me on the day we lay him to rest".

Tributes to Johnny...

Tributes have flooded social media with radio listeners and fellow presenters expressing their sadness.

Pete Price said: "So sad Linda McDermott has lost the love of her life Johnny Kennedy. Linda said we loved and adored each other.

"True soulmates from the moment we met 35 years ago. The joy we received from each other’s company was truly immeasurable. We were inseparable, perfect mutual adoration."

Dune Radio said: "Very sad news to hear that radio legend Johnny Kennedy has sadly passed away.

"Johnny not only worked with us from our launch day as Sandgrounder Radio in June 2016 for a few years but also when we ran the station on a temporary 28 day broadcast licence in 2015.

"Our thoughts are with Johnny’s friends and family at this very sad time."
