RESTAURANT chain Nando's has confirmed the date that its second Wirral branch is to open.

The company, which specialises in chicken dishes, is due to open in the former Flank Restaurant at Marine Point in New Brighton on February 6, creating 35 to 40 local jobs.

Bromborough is the only other Nando’s on Wirral at the moment.

A statement confirming the news on Nando's website read: "Merseyside’s getting another Nando’s. Our new New Brighton restaurant will open on February 6.

"Find us in the seafront redevelopment, near Caffe Cream and The Light cinema.

"Available for eat-in, collect and delivery, it’s about to be one of your go-to places to eat, whatever your plans.

"We’re nodding to our heritage with Portuguese-inspired tiles and handmade light features from South Africa.

"We'll have 120 seats inside and 32 outside, if you fancy your Nando's al fresco."

Recent plans for external alterations as part of Nando's occupation of the premises include an 'enhanced' seating area, replacement plant, fascia signs, two internally-illuminated menu cases. The site will use the existing seating area layout and doorway entrance.

New planting boxes replace the existing planting on the current boundary for the seating area. A new kitchen extraction and air handling plant has been installed along with heating, cooling and catering condensers.

Previous boundary details will be replaced with new planting boxes that are modest in size and are at a substantial distance away from the edge of the public highway.

A statement issued along with the planning documents to Wirral Council said: 'The proposals reflect Nando’s significant investment into this new location'.

It added 'Nando's is a popular operator which will increase the footfall in the area, and solidify the area’s reputation as a leisure destination'.

Marine Point, which is home to Costa, Iceland, Home Bargains, Hungry Horse and the Light cinema, was sold in 2022 by Aprirose to DS Properties for £44million.
