EMERGENCY services rushed to a woodland area of Wirral this afternoon following reports of an individual sustaining a head injury.

At around 12.50pm, police, paramedics, and the fire service were called to reports of an incident on Rest Hill Road in Storeton, close to Storeton woods.

An air ambulance is also reported to have arrived at the scene, with firefighters and paramedics using a scoop stretcher to safely move the casualty.

The fire service report that the individual was conscious and breathing, and was treated at the scene for a head injury and taken to hospital for further treatment.

The incident comes after Wirral and much of the UK has received an amber weather warning for strong winds and rain.

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended an incident on Rest Hill Road, Storeton this afternoon.

"Crews were alerted at 12.52 and one fire engine arrived on scene at 13.00.

"Fire Service personnel assisted North West Ambulance Service Paramedics to gain access to, and move, a casualty, using a scoop stretcher. The individual was conscious and breathing and treated at scene for a head laceration.

"The casualty was then conveyed to hospital for further assessment and treatment.

"Crews left the scene at 13.52."
