A MAN has been arrested after a person became trapped in a car by a seatbelt following a crash in Bebington.

Emergency services were called to the crash involving a VW Golf and a Mercedes on Mount Road, Higher Bebington around 5.20pm yesterday (Thursday, January 4).

Two fire engines, Merseyside Police, North West Ambulance Service and the Search and Rescue Team were in attendance.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews arrived to find one car with a passenger trapped by a seatbelt, the driver had been able to leave the vehicle without injury.

"The two occupants of the other vehicle involved were uninjured and able to leave their vehicle.

"After an assessment by North West Ambulance Service, fire crews were asked to remove the roof of the vehicle where the person was trapped."

Crews assisted NWAS in removing the casualty safely from the vehicle for treatment and transport to hospital for precautionary checks, before handing the scene over to Merseyside Police and leaving the scene at 6.28pm.

Merseyside Police has confirmed a 32 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving and released under investigation pending further enquiries.
