WIRRAL residents have described how their homes "shook" and they saw "bright flashes" as Storm Gerrit hit the borough last night (Wednesday, November 27).
The Met Office issued a yellow alert for Wirral yesterday, Wednesday, as Storm Gerrit was set to batter many parts of the UK.
People across Wirral described "very loud" sounds with some saying that it felt like a "plane taking off".
Wendy Burns in Bebington said: "The thunder was so loud and that flash was so bright felt like our house shook."
Bex Jones in Birkenhead said: "I saw the lightning, it was really loud and the house shook."
Chris Mac said that he heard it in Eastham and it sounded like "a heavy vehicle going past the house".
Julie Patricia Bromilow wrote: "Heard the big thunder, I was at work and it shook me up."
Sounded like an 'earthquake'
Karin Evans in West Kirby described it as "wild and loud bangs which sounded like it was an earthquake".
Emma Louise Parker Jackson added: "Bromborough sounded like a heard of elephants then lightning and poured down."
Sue Bostock said: "I live in Pensby and I thought it was an earthquake or big explosion somewhere nearby as everything shook!
"It was just before the news so I waited to see if there was mention of it."
Kathryn Whitehead wrote: "Strangest sounding thunder, it was like an explosion with a roaring sound.
"Frightened the life out of me".
