A MAN has been arrested following two "violent" armed robberies at Subway restaurants in Moreton and Wallasey.
Last night (Sunday, December 17) just before 8.15pm officers received a report of a robbery at Subway on Wallasey Village Road.
It was reported that a man entered the premises with a firearm and pointed it at a member of staff.
The man then left the store with a quantity of cash.
Earlier this month, on Saturday, December 9 at around 7.45pm, officers also received a report that a man had entered a Subway, on Hoylake Road, in Moreton, and used a suspected firearm to threaten a member of staff.
He left the store with a quantity of cash and fled the area on foot.
No one was injured but both members of staff were left distressed after the incidents.
Last night (Sunday, December 17) officers searched a property in Upton and arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of robbery after two air weapons were seized from the house.
He was taken to a police station in Merseyside where he remains in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Caton said: "This arrest made last night shows that we simply will not tolerate such violent attacks and robberies on those who are simply trying to make a living in our communities.
"While we have made an arrest, enquiries into the robberies remain ongoing.
"If you were near any of the Subways in Moreton and Wallasey Village at the time of these incidents on Sunday night or Saturday, December 9 and saw anything or anyone suspicious then please let us know.
"Similarly, if you work in the area and have any CCTV footage please contact police. Any information you hold could be vital to our enquiries."
