A DRIVER has been taken to hospital after a car crashed into a wall this morning (Friday, December 15).

Bridle Road in Eastham was closed in both ways due to an accident from Elgar Avenue to Heygarth Road.

Emergency services including Merseyside Police, North West Ambulance Service, and Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service were at the scene and people were asked to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

Merseyside Police Contact Centre said: “Please avoid BRIDLE ROAD EASTHAM from Heygarth Road. Due to a police incident, the road is currently CLOSED. Please find an alternative route.”

The latest update on live travel and traffic tracker, INRIX, states: “Road cleared, accident cleared on Bridle Road both ways from Elgar Avenue to Heygarth Road".

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews were called to a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) on Bridle Road, Eastham this morning.

"Crews were alerted at 6.02am and on scene 6.11am, with two fire engines and the Search and Rescue Team in attendance.

"Crews arrived to find a car had collided with a wall.

"The car remained on all four wheels and the driver was assessed by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

"Firefighters assisted in removing bricks from the damaged wall and after further assessment from NWAS fire crews removed the roof of the vehicle and used a long board to remove the driver safely from the vehicle into the care of NWAS to be transported to hospital.

"Fire crews left the scene in the hands of Merseyside Police at 8.03am."
