A POLICE dog helped officers arrest a man carrying a machete following a house burglary in Tranmere yesterday (Sunday, December 10).

At around 8.50pm officers received a report that five men had got out of a silver Mercedes car and broke into a house on Fairfield Road in Tranmere. 

The family dog, a German Shepherd, ran to the door and was struck on the head before the intruders escaped.

Officers attended and Police Dog Yoko apprehended a man in possession of a machete. Yoko then recovered the machete which had been hidden.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion being in possession of a bladed article in a public place and affray. He is still in police custody to be questioned.
