READERS have reacted with sadness after the owners of an award-winning Wirral restaurant and wedding venue confirmed that its doors will close for the last time on Christmas Day.

The Mouse at Brimstage owners confirmed the closure news 'with very heavy heart' on Facebook this afternoon (Sunday, December 3).

Our readers took to social media to comment on the announcement.

Tracey Holland wrote: "What a shame. Lovely place and great food."

Joy Thompson commented: "So sad, love going there. Xx"

Adam Williams summed up his thoughts in one word: "Gutted" 

Sandra Pötke described the planned closure as a "real shame" adding that the venue is a 'lovely place."

Emma Sayle Gold: "Used to be a lovely venue but standards dropped after lockdown. I used to love sitting in the beautiful garden at the back, and was gutted when they ruined it by filling it with tacky decorations and crowded seating.

"The staff were friendly, however the service very poor despite high prices. Its a shame but I think some poor decisions have made this inevitable."

"It’s always a shame to hear of places having to close , though, and the Mouse is in such a nice rural location and has its own unique charm. Perhaps someone will take it over?"

The Facebook post from The Mouse at Brimstage on Sunday read: "It’s with a very heavy heart that The Mouse is closing its doors on Christmas Day, for the very last time!

"I’ve tried to contact all events booked in for the next few years (all will be refunded).

"I’ve had to come to this incredibly hard decision for reasons that are unfortunate out of my control.

"The Mouse has stood strong for 45 yrs!

"To say I’m gutted after all the hard work is an understatement.

"I’d just like to say a massive thank you to all my staff who have stood by me, it means so much to me, you lovely lot!

"So guys, if you want to come to The Mouse for one last time during December I’d please ask you to book so we can staff it accordingly.

"Thank you for all your custom, loyalty and kind reviews over the years! Much love Dani xx"
