A MAN has been charged after shoplifting from a clothes shop in Birkenhead.

On Wednesday November 15 it was reported that a man entered the Yours Clothing shop and stole two hoodies.

Joshua Hoijord-Smith, 32, of Whetstone Lane in Tranmere has been charged with theft from a shop and using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour to cause harassment/ alarm/distress.

He appeared at Wirral Magistrates Court yesterday, Thursday 30 November, and will next appear in court at a later date.

Detective Inspector Andrew Scofield said: “Business crime from retailers is not a victimless crime, and the ripple effect can be devastating where staff can lose their jobs if the store closes due to constantly losing stock.

"Theft from stores also impacts shoppers as retailers raise their prices to make up for the loss of goods stolen.”

Today, Friday December 1, Merseyside Police has launched Operation Shepherd, its annual campaign to reduce crime and keep communities safe during the festive period.
