TEMPERATURES are set to dip into minus figures this week across Wirral.

The Met Office has said with the UK sitting in cold air from northern Scandinavia the weather is turning much colder for the rest of this week and the start of next.

Daytime temperatures will struggle to get above single figures and overnight temperatures will stay below freezing for much of the country.

Forecasters are predicting temperatures to hit freezing (0C) in Wirral on Thursday morning (November 30) and they will not reach above four degrees for the rest of the week.

Temperatures will "feel like" -1C and -2C for most of the week, especially during the night.

Here is the Met Office forecast for Wirral over the coming days:

Today:

Another chilly and frosty start with some mist and fog in places. This will gradually clear through the morning leaving a dry day with plenty of autumnal sunshine. Feeling cold with light winds. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

Tonight:

Staying cold with a widespread sharp frost. Largely dry though perhaps the odd wintry shower over hills, with some mist and fog in places too. Minimum temperature -3 °C.

Thursday:

Another cold and frosty start but largely fine and dry with sunny spells, though still a risk of some wintry flurries over hills. Staying cold, particularly in the breeze. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

As we head towards the weekend there is plenty of fine weather though remaining chilly with sharp frosts. Still a chance of hill snow and some overnight fog in places.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Neil Armstrong, said: "There has been some uncertainty in the atmospheric weather patterns for the coming days, however, confidence in the forecast is improving and there is a reducing chance of snow for southern areas of the UK, although there is still a chance we may see some sleety wintry showers over higher ground in areas such as Dartmoor or Exmoor.

"Northern and north-eastern areas of the UK in the moist north/north-easterly airflow continue to see a chance of snow or sleet and yellow snow and ice National Severe Weather Warnings have been issued."
