Autism Together pay tribute to Harry Murphy following death

Harry Murphy, from Parkgate, started attending Autism Together's day services in 2017.

He initially attended a number of different areas across their services and featured regularly in the charity's external publications, due to his "fantastic smile".

Harry sadly died following a short illness at the end of October.

Paying tribute to the "fantastic young man", Steve Davis, Service Manager at Autism Together, described how Harry would "light up a room with his smile".

He said: "Harry was funny, mischievous and an absolute pleasure to have in our services and would light up the room with his smile.

"When Harry returned to Day Services after the pandemic, he chose to attend Performing Arts three days a week.

"He had fantastic relationships both with staff and other people we support and was hugely popular.

"He loved to dance and sing and play ‘pranks’ all in good fun.

"His real love however was being a policeman and he attended daily, fully rigged out in police attire.

"Many items were donated by the husband of Karen Watson, one of his closest support staff.

"Harry would love nothing more than 'arresting' people and putting them in handcuffs, and then would ask for the 'big red key'.

"We once managed to get some Armed Response police officers to visit our services, and they allowed Harry to sit in their car and use the 'big red key'. It was a visit he absolutely loved.

"Harry was a fantastic young man who will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him."

Harry's funeral is taking place today (Tuesday, November 28) at St. Thomas’ church in Parkgate.
