THE work by staff at a Wirral vaccination centre has been recognised with a prestigious honour.
Birkenhead vaccination centre was awarded the 2023 team of the year by Mersey Faculty of the Royal College of General Practitioners at its annual ceremony at Liverpool Football Club.
The service was set up in 2020 by 18 practices in Birkenhead and Wallasey working together as Arno and North Coast Alliance. Since its formation, the service has given more than 225,000 vaccines.
Birkenhead Vaccination Centre was awarded Mersey Team of the Year at by Mersey Faculty of the Royal College of General Practitioners (Image: RCGP Mersey Faculty)In accepting the award, Dr Abhi Mantgani, clinical lead for the service said: "This award is a tribute to the hard work and commitment of member practices, doctors, nurses, paramedics, pharmacists, health care assistants, retired clinicians returning to work, admin staff and especially a number of unpaid volunteers.
"We thank them all for their fantastic contribution."
The autumn vaccination programme is expected to end on December 15.
According to Dr Mantgani, the incidence of Covid is still high and all eligible people (over 65 years and all immune compromised persons) are advised to get their vaccination.
The service is open 1-5 pm Monday to Friday and 9am -2pm Saturday. Walk in and booked appointments are available.
