RESIDENTS and staff at a Magenta care scheme in Ellesmere Port have celebrated the development's sixth birthday.

Magenta Living’s Hartley Place Extra Care Scheme was officially opened by the Mayor of Ellesmere Port back in November 2017.

In November, their sixth birthday was celebrated by residents and staff with an evening of entertainment, food and singing from Debbie Gold.

A raffle, for a pink-themed hamper packed full of goodies including celebration cupcakes, chocolate, fudge, popcorn, pink Prosecco and pink non-alcoholic gin, was won by resident Rita.

Joanna Barnes, extra care co-ordinator at Hartley Place, said: "Hartley Place is a vibrant, social and inclusive community and we wanted to celebrate this with all our residents and staff.

"Although it’s not a 'big' birthday this year, at Hartley Place we love a good party and we had a fantastic evening and our residents really got into the spirit of things."

The birthday celebrations formed part of a "regular and very active programme" of entertainment held at the extra care community.

Hartley Place is a multi-million pound extra care facility aimed at over 55s which offers 60 one and two-bedroom apartments as well as 15 bungalows all with a level-access wet room, lounge and kitchen.

Extra care allows independent living with 24 hour on-site support services and flexible care packages are available from care provider, Making Space.

Residents can benefit from communal facilities including an onsite bistro, hairdressers and a beauty salon, which are all open to the public, and a lounge area as well as a full programme of activities and events.

There is also a garden space which will "encourage residents to get involved in planting and gardening and to enjoy the outside space".

Rachel Bennett, housing services director at Magenta Living, said:  "At Magenta Living, we offer a range of supported accommodation to meet customer needs, including retirement living Hartley Place is one of our two current extra care schemes - Barncroft Extra Care in Pensby being the other.

"Care and support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is tailored to the individual’s needs.

"We want all our communities to be welcoming and full of life and we are really excited that our third extra care facility will be opening very soon in Wallasey.

"We are hoping to welcome our first residents to Sycamore Place early in the New Year."

'I love it here'

Resident Linda said: "It is like a hotel. The bistro is great. I love the bingo. Joanna is a very good manager.

"The carers are soon there when I press my buzzer. I love it here."

Resident Olwyn added: "I love living at Hartley Place.

"Mainly, I feel comfortable, safe and have a fantastic time with the various entertainment that Joanna puts on for us.

"It’s our own little, but friendly community. I feel very lucky to have such lovely staff looking after us."
