ONE of Wirral's most successful bands of recent years are reuniting for a one-off gig in Birkenhead.

Formed in 2013 after meeting at Upton by Chester High School, indie rock four-piece Hooton Tennis Club signed with Heavenly Records before releasing their acclaimed debut album Highest Point in Cliff Town in 2015.

The band, who take their name from the tennis courts in Little Sutton, released a second album, Big Box of Chocolates in 2016 but apart from the 2020 single Monsoonal Runoff they have been on a hiatus ever since.

Hooton Tennis Club have now confirmed they are playing at Birkenhead's Future Yard venue on Wednesday, January 31 as part of Independent Venues Week.

A spokesperson for Future Yard said: "The Wirral’s most treasured indie darlings are back in a big way.

"Hooton Tennis Club return for a very special, one-off, headline show at Future Yard on Wednesday, January 31 2024 as part of Independent Venue Week ’24 on Argyle Street.

"Armed with a warm hug of sound, their patented laid-back melodies recalls ’90s American slacker indie as much as it does Britpop, bringing to mind the likes of Pavement, Supergrass and Teenage Fanclub."
