FREE parking and late-night shopping are coming to Liscard to give businesses a boost before Christmas.

The Liscard Together for Christmas event will take place on Thursday November 30 between 3pm – 7pm.

It will give shoppers the chance to park for free after 3pm in council-operated car parks and all day at the Cherry Tree Centre, to enjoy the offers on display in the town centre.

The Cherry Tree Centre will have performances on throughout the day, including Christmas choirs, a jazz band and free grotto, and a number of food and drink vendors will be operating along Liscard Way alongside community information stalls.

Merseyside Police will also be providing free bike marking as part of their partnership with BikeRegister.

The event has been organised by the Liscard Together Partnership, a newly established group made up of local businesses, community groups and the council, working together to help transform Liscard.

The event is being supported by Wirral Council, with additional funding provided by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Cllr Tony Jones, chair of Wirral council's economy, regeneration and housing committee, said: "It’s great to see this late shopping in Liscard which will give the town a real festive buzz.

"I'm hopeful that offering free parking on the day in council car parks will help generate a boost for all the businesses and vendors that are open later than normal.

"The last time we had performances in the Cherry Tree Centre was back in July for the Youth Market and we saw a brilliant turnout then.

"I’d encourage as many people as possible to come along with their families to make this another successful event."

Just two days after this Christmas event, parking charges will be lifted for the day in all council-operated car parks and on street parking to help support local high streets for Small Business on Saturday December 2.
