MANSLAUGHTER charges against a Wirral man accused of killing a pensioner during a fight in Liverpool have been dropped.

Emergency services were called to Coburg Wharf at 8.05pm on Friday, October 15, following reports a man in his 70s had been attacked close to The Yacht Club bar and restaurant.

John Williams Senior, 70, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and died six days later.

Carl Peers, 43, was charged with manslaughter and appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court in February. He appeared again at Liverpool Crown Court today (Tuesday, November 14), where the charge was dropped.

Peers, of Easton Road, New Ferry, has now pleaded guilty to two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, against Mr Williams and another person.

Peers will be sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday, December 5.
