THE Wirral branch of a charity supporting people with Motor Neurone Disease has launched a recruitment drive for volunteers.

A spokesperson for Motor Neurone Disease Association Wirral said the group has become a 'victim of its own success' and needs more people to help lend a hand with its work.

And they were delighted that Alison McGovern, MP for Wirral South, took time out of her busy schedule to pop into a meeting at the Indigo Cafe in Birkenhead to show her support.

Julienne McGeough, event organiser said: "We need volunteers to help in various ways including being Association Visitors (AVs) who develop one-to-one relationships with people living with this cruel disease to help make their lives easier.

“But we have roles for everyone willing to get involved and there is no time commitment, even those who can just help out for the occasional hour fund raising, are welcome so please get in touch.

"At any one time we are supporting about 30 families and as we are only a small group that is why we have a great need for more Association Visitors, who receive comprehensive training.
