THE Met Office has issued parts of Wirral with a yellow weather warning as Storm Ciarán is set to batter parts of the country this week.

The Met Office has confirmed that "very strong and potentially damaging winds associated with Storm Ciarán are likely late Wednesday onwards into Thursday".

South Wales and southern England are set to see the worst of the effects, however, other parts of the UK, such as parts of Wirral, will experience heavy rainfall before Ciarán arrives.

Coming just two weeks after Storm Babet it is recognised as the third storm of the 12-month season, which starts in early September.

The yellow weather warning, which covers areas such as Neston and Puddington is in place from 6pm today (Wednesday, November 1) until 11.59pm tomorrow (Thursday, November 2).

The warning area was expanded to cover a wider area of western and southern England along with all of Wales by the Met Office this morning, Wednesday.

Forecasters have said to expect delays or cancellations to train and bus services, potential flooding to homes and businesses, and fast-flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Steven Keates, said: "Once Storm Ciarán has passed, the weather over the weekend continues to look unsettled for many with more showers and rain at times.

"Warnings will continue to be updated over the coming days, so it is important to stay up to date with the Met Office forecast and warnings in your area."
