WIRRAL was battered with heavy and persistent rain downpours as Storm Babet swept across the country.

Met Office experts issued Wirral residents with a “danger to life” yellow weather warning which came into force at midnight on Friday, October 20.

A number of roads were affected by the weather, with many closed due to flooding. Railway cancellations and power cuts were also present across the borough.

A flood alert was issued by the Environment Agency due to a significant rise in levels in local rivers around the Rivers Fender and Birkett and Rivacre, Dibbinsdale and Arrowe Brook and their tributaries. The flood alert was also in force in parts of Birkenhead, Heswall, Bebington, Hoylake and Wallasey.

Here are some pictures of how Storm Babet affected the peninsula.
