WITH the recent closure of two Wilko stores in Wirral, we asked readers what shop they would like to see replace them.

The hardware and furnishings retailer Wilko tumbled into administration in August after it came under pressure from weak consumer spending and debts to suppliers.

Liscard's Wilko store, located in the Cherry Tree Shopping Centre, closed for the final time on Friday, September 29.

Birkenhead's store, at The Europa Centre, closed on Wilko's final day of trading across the country on Sunday, October 8.

What did readers say?

With two large empty shops, Globe readers have revealed what shops they would like to see take their places.

Nicola Hazlehurst said: "The Range in Birkenhead an M&S in Liscard."

Katherine Wharton wrote: "B&M in Birkenhead and The Range in Wallasey."

Emma Forshaw, Sue Brown, Jenna Dempsey and Sharon Hughes also all said they would like The Range to replace Wilko.

Mark Leach, Sandra Hazlewood Abraham and Stefanie Parsons all agreed that it would be a good idea to have an M&S.

Shirley Ellis said: "A Dunelm would be great."

Andrew John Harrison wrote: "A really good musical instrument shop - like Strothers used to be."

Paul Friess said what he didn't want. He wrote: "Anything except charity shops!"

Danielle Rickarby Chandler said she wanted an Aldi or Lidl while Paul Collinson said "a food court like the one in Liverpool."

Alan Paul Johnston added: "I think a book shop with workshops to help kids read books again and craft and tech workshops would be a good start."
