A PUB in Parkgate has said they are "overwhelmed" after they received a Travellers' Choice award from Trip Advisor for 2023.

The Red Lion, located on The Parade, is owned by Jess and Mark Edmunds, and managed by John Clarke.

The team took over the pub in June 2021 and gave it a complete renovation in winter 2021.

With their team of 24 staff, the pub hosts a band night on the last Thursday of every month where local artists perform, a solo artist performance on Sundays, and there is also a Quiz Night every Tuesday.

Speaking to the Globe in April, John said: "We want anyone to come in. We wanted to change the time.

"We wanted to create an atmosphere where everyone felt ok to come into our pub."

The pub has recently been awarded a Travellers' Choice award for 2023.

What is a Travellers' Choice award?

Tripadvisor gives a Travellers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travellers and are ranked within the top 10 per cent of properties on Tripadvisor.

On receiving the award, owner Jess said: "We are unbelievably overwhelmed with receiving a certificate for reaching the top 10 per cent of restaurants worldwide in the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice 2023.

"This means a lot to all of us at the Red Lion and makes all the hard work put in by each and every member of the team worthwhile to get the pub to where it is today.

"We can’t wait to welcome more travellers from far and wide and show them what a great place the Red Lion is.

"We couldn’t have done it without the team and our customers so a big thank you goes to them all."
