A DRIVER has been arrested after a collision involving a car and a lorry on the A55 near Chester this afternoon (October 3).
The incident occurred westbound near Eccleston, close to the Posthouse roundabout shortly before 12.50pm and sparked heavy congestion.
Traffic was reportedly stretching back beyond the Vicars Cross junction.
Highways North West said the collision involved a car and a lorry, and that lane one (of two) was closed.
A spokesperson said Cheshire Police was in attendance and that there was a 30 minute delay on approach with three miles of congestion.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 12.50pm on Tuesday, police were called to reports of a collision near junction 38 of the A55 near Eccleston, Chester.
"The collision involved a silver Ford Mondeo and a Scania HGV truck. The driver of the Mondeo, a 28-year-old man, sustained minor injuries to his arm and head and was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital as a precaution.
"He was also arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving. The driver of the HGV did not sustain any injuries.
"The road was reopened shortly after 3pm."
