THE Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA) Good Beer Guide included 11 Wirral pubs in its 2024 edition.

The Guide, which surveys 4,500 of the best pubs across the UK, is the definitive beer drinker’s guide for those seeking the best pints in the nation’s pubs.

Wirral's thriving beer scene is highlighted by the number of entries alongside three independent breweries.

Wirral Globe:

Gallaghers in Birkenhead is praised for its six changing beers and "fascinating military memorabilia" while Bebington's Rose and Crown is described as a "thriving, vibrant and friendly community local."

Also in Bebington, the Traveller's Rest makes it in, with Bromborough's Bow Legged Beagle and Greasby's Coach and Horses both included.

The Irby Mill's "locally-sourced , home-made food" is highlighted while the Beer Lab in Heswall's selection of cider makes it an obvious entry alongside the nearby Jug and Bottle.

Wirral's first micropub, Liscard's Lazy Landlord, is "frequented by a mature, discerning clientele of regulars" with Hoylake's Black Toad, New Brighton's James Atherton and Magazine Hotel all impressing the Guide's writers.

Stanley's Cask in New Brighton gets a listing as does Thornton Hough's Red Fox while the West Kirby Tap and the Upton branch of the Bow Legged Beagle complete the entries.

Brimstage, Glen Affric, Peerless and Brooks breweries are all included.

The 51st edition of the Guide includes a foreword supplied by Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson which shines a spotlight on the cultural tradition of pubs within the United Kingdom, the importance of protecting the heritage, charm and welcoming nature of pubs and clubs, and not taking them for granted.

CAMRA Chairman, Nik Antona, said: “We’re honoured to have Bruce Dickinson pen the foreword for The Good Beer Guide 2024. As we enter our second half century of producing the Guide, there is no one better to introduce this year’s edition, and highlight what makes these institutions so worth visiting.

“The last few years have been an incredibly difficult time for the industry, and we need more support than ever before to keep our nation’s pubs and breweries open and thriving. I’d encourage everyone to use this year’s Guide to visit the very best pubs and breweries across the UK and support them for generations to come.”
