WIRRAL Mencap has expressed their "delight" after they raised over £2,000 at their sponsored Seaside Walk which was attended by the Mayor of Wirral.
Wirral Mencap's Seaside Walk took place on Saturday, September 9.
Starting at Seacombe Ferry Terminal, the two-mile option finished at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton, where participants were met and congratulated by the Mayor, Councillor Jerry Williams.
Those who signed up to do the 10-mile route along the rest of the Wirral coastline finished at the Green Lodge in Hoylake, cheered on by the volunteer team from the Birkenhead Lions.
Money from individual sponsorship pages is still coming in and at just over £2,000 Wirral Mencap are well on track to beat last year’s total.
This year Wirral Mencap was "delighted" to work alongside two new partners for the Seaside Walk – United Utilities and All Together Now.
Steph Smith, Vulnerable Customer Lead at United Utilities, said: "As a North West service provider we were more than happy to support Wirral Mencap and this year’s Seaside Walk. Our Priority Service scheme is designed to offer additional help and support for any one of our seven million customers living with additional needs.
"That could be due to mental health problems, age, illness, disability, language barriers or financial difficulty."
All Together Now! is a unique and multi award-winning charity that provides a comprehensive news and information service for people whose lives are affected by disability, ill-health and age.
Wirral Mencap also wanted to say a massive thank you to two local businesses who sponsored this year’s event – Elysium Law and Phoenix Solicitors Birkenhead and to Tesco Bidston Moss and the Birkenhead Lions who provided water and fruit at both the finishing points.
Debbie Green Fundraiser for Wirral Mencap said: "We are so excited after the success of this year’s Seaside Walk in September, and we are grateful to Elysium Law and Phoenix Solicitors who not only offered to sponsor but got their team involved as well.
"Support and sponsorship from local businesses is vital for community fundraising events like this. Without their help it’s hard to deliver viable fundraising activities and raise awareness in the community. We couldn’t do it without you! Thank you."
