Wirral's Best Independent Business 2023 - Bromborough Flowers

Hundreds of Wirral Globe readers voted for their favourite independent shop or business in our latest Best of 2023 competition and Bromborough Flowers came up smelling of roses.

Each week, we will be searching for the best Wirral has to offer in different categories and we’ve given out 11 awards for 2023.

Voting for Wirral’s Best Dessert is currently taking place and we’re also looking for nominations in our latest search - Best for Beauty.

Next on the list was the search for Wirral’s Best Independent Shop or Business – to mark Independence Week and #ukindieday – and Bromborough Flowers took the latest Best of 2023 crown.

Bromborough Flowers opened on Allport Road in 2020

Pauline Bartlett, who has lived in Wirral for the last 15 years, started the business in 2019 opening the shop on Allport Road in Bromborough in 2020.

She grew up in Rainford near St Helens, which is where she started her floristry training at 16, opening her first floristry business at the age of 17.

She now offers community tuition classes throughout Wirral.

Pauline said: “At Bromborough Flowers we sell general day to day flowers as well as a wide range of plants, accessories, balloons and greetings cards.

“Funerals and weddings are a mainstay of our business and we offer collection and delivery services throughout the Wirral area.

“We are also able to offer worldwide flower relays through our relay partner, which provides our customers with a great opportunity to send flowers to family and friends abroad.”

She added: “I have always been passionate about the flower industry and the profound effect giving and receiving flowers has on people.

“It’s always nice to see the happiness a little bunch of flowers can bring to someone’s day.

“I love being given the opportunity to change people’s lives and bring some happiness to their day by giving them flowers, or even just letting people know they are in someone’s thoughts.”

Pauline said: “From a business perspective, I have to say the attention to detail to each customer’s needs.

“We always try to meet the needs of our customers no matter how obscure the request and we do get a few strange ones!

“Our most important ethos, at the core of our business model, is to create a friendly and welcoming environment for our customers and deliver the quality we promise.

“We know we are doing something right when people feel they can come in any time for a brief catch up and a cuppa with us throughout the day.

“We are truly blessed to have such a loyal and supporting local community and none of this would have been possible without them.”

The working day at Bromborough Flowers starts early with the flower markets at 4am before a 12-hour shift in the shop, seven days a week.

Pauline said: “It’s very hard work but can be so rewarding.

“We feel very privileged to have been considered one of the best independent businesses in Wirral together with some other fantastic companies who we hear so much about.

“None of our success would be possible without out fabulous customers – we have the best customers anyone could ask for.

“They have supported throughout this whole journey.”
