A WOMAN from Heswall who worked in the NHS for over 25 years has written a book to bring awareness to others about sabotaging your health.

Irene Ward finished her career as a tissue viability specialist nurse. During her time as a nurse, she trained to be a holistic therapist and hypnotherapist.

The 69-year-old said: "I loved helping people really. I started doing therapy for friends and family and psychology just absolutely fascinates me.

"I knew quite a few people who would benefit from it and I used to do it from home and people would come and have their hypnotherapy. It was very successful."

In December 2022, Irene published her book Own your health like your life depends on it which shares her thoughts on health problems that can be prevented. Irene uses scenarios to show how choices we make, can influence our health.

Chapters in the book include smoking, diabetes, self-harm, melanoma cancer, suicide and weight loss.

She said: "Each chapter is a little story of its own. I had to be very careful because I wanted to make it anonymous.

"I just wanted to help people to make them understand that they were actually sabotaging their own health.

"The whole book is about how people sabotage their own health knowingly or unknowingly."

Speaking about having her own book published, Irene said it is "exciting".

"When I first started it was just an idea when I was chatting amongst friends", Irene said.
