MERSEYSIDE residents are paying the most in the UK for their gas and electricity prices, a new study has revealed.

Merseyside and North Wales is the most expensive UK area for energy bills, with combined annual energy costs of £2,064 per household on average. The annual electricity cost in this region is £1,074 per household on average, which is also the highest on the list, whilst the remaining £989 is for gas.

The research comes from plumbing company, PlubNation, which calculated the average cost of gas and electricity bills in different UK regions by multiplying the average number of units used by the average cost per unit in each location. After adding that figure to the average standing charge, they were able to reveal the parts of the UK that are paying the most for their energy bills.

London is the second most expensive area in the UK for energy bills, with the city’s combined annual energy bill coming to £2,030 per household on average. The annual electricity cost is £1,008 per household on average, whilst the annual gas cost is £1,029, the highest on the list.

Southern Scotland is the third most expensive area in the UK for energy bills, with combined annual energy costs totalling £2,015 per household on average. The annual electricity cost in this region is £1,018, and the gas cost is £998, the second most expensive on the list.

The North East is the least expensive area in the UK for energy bills, with combined annual energy costs of £1,942 per household. The North East saw the lowest spending on both forms of energy, with the region’s combined figure made up of a £981 electricity bill and a £961 gas bill.
