A RESIDENT in Little Neston is asking the council to improve the facilities on a patch of land he played on when he was a child.

Steven Lightfoot has lived in the Marshlands Road area for over 10 years.

Speaking to the Globe, he said: "I grew up across the road from this park years ago and when I first started going there, there were slides, swings, football goals and everything.

"Over the years everything has been taken away, the grass hardly ever gets cut there now."

Steven explained that when he walks his dog along the field, there are kids trying to play football but the grass is too long.

"They cut the grass at other parks in the area, like in Parkgate, West Vale and Stanley Park. This one has just been forgotten about", Steven said.

"There are loads of kids in the area and they've either got to go to West Vale or Woodfall Park to play which are both quite far away."

Steven is asking Cheshire West and Chester Council to improve the facilities on the patch of land which is on Marshlands Road.

He added: "I want to see if the council has anything on their radar for the pitch.

"I understand that the council is not cutting the grass because it's 'No Mo May' but the kids can't play on it because it's so long.

"The park used to be really good. We used to have football games of 20 aside and then everything got taken away.

"I know some people who have said it's nice the way it is, because it's nice and quiet, but it's because their houses back onto it."

Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council said: "I have made a commitment to holding an open event with our teams and the town council to engage with the local community as to how they would like the space at Marshlands Road field to be used. This will take place in the summer.

"There are already allotments on the site and there is an aspiration from residents and the town council to expand this provision. The field is well used by dog walkers and it's important we get everyone’s views as to how the space is used."

Steven has made a page on Facebook for residents to share ideas and to prove to CWAC that the area is long overdue a new park.
