THOSUANDS of bikers descended on the borough over the weekend as part of Wirral’s annual Egg Run.

Around 5,000 bikers could be seen riding through the peninsula’s towns and villages collecting Easter eggs and raising cash for charities as part of the tribute ride out.

Setting off at 11am on Sunday, March 26, motorcyclists followed a route starting at The Dips in New Brighton and finishing at Claremont Farm in Bebington.

Hundreds of residents could be seen lining the streets as bikers drove through Wallasey, Moreton, Hoylake, West Kirby, and Heswall.

The event, which is a tribute to the original Wirral Egg Run which was cancelled in 2013, raises cash for local charities and collects Easter eggs for underprivileged children in the area.

Event organiser, Stephen Paul Kelly told the Globe: “I want to say a massive thank you to all the volunteers who help collect the donations and direct traffic at the farm.

“The public who support us on the route and make the day worth doing. It's nice to get your bike out but even better to see the many smiling faces on route it wouldn’t be the same without you. All done for no cost again thanks to all the support we get.”

Almost 2,000 Easter eggs were collected as part of the day as well as donations collected for Claires House Children’s Hospice, Merseyside and Cheshire Bloodbikes and North West Air Ambulance.

“The unity between everyone no matter what you ride and the positivity that surrounded the day was awesome.

“Seeing so many kids with smiles on their faces, all trying to donate eggs. The day is a win win for everyone.

“The weather was on our side and all the donations that have been made will go to make a massive difference somewhere along the line. Getting out of bed to see the roads were dry and feel that general buzz that was in the air - how does it get any better than that?

“I had my family on the sidelines and my Italian bike ran sweet as a nut for a change!”
