THE skies above Wirral were shining green last night as the northern lights danced through the darkness.

Keen photographers from all over the north west flocked to the area to try and capture the aurora borealis on camera in the early hours of the morning.

Here are some of your fantastic images.

Tell us a bit about how you managed to capture the aurora borealis on your camera or phoneBetween midnight and 4am this fantastic phenomenon was seen by keen photographers all over the north west. In the last seven years, I've been frantically hunting for the northern lights. I’ve never once heard that this breath taking phenomenon could be perceived like this on Meols beach in Wirral. I got home around 6am having spent the whole night with a lady called Aurora! It was an unforgettable experience all alone on the beach while the sky "danced" above me!

Tell us a bit about how you managed to capture the aurora borealis on your camera or phoneI took the photo on my Samsung phone from inside the car. I went with my mum to check, took this photo and couldn't see anything - I had another look this morning and realised I should have looked slightly more to the left!

Tell us a bit about how you managed to capture the aurora borealis on your camera or phoneI received an aurora alert from my Aurora WhatsApp stating that there was an amber alert. I ran outside and was able to see it safely with the naked eye. Using my camera phone with three second exposure, I captured these photos.
