THE owner of a barbershop in Wirral is collecting unwanted clothes and accessories to help give back to people and businesses in the local community.

Tracey Lewis owner of Alcatraz Barber based on Acre Lane in Bromborough is hoping to help local people after installing a clothing drop box in her shop.

Tracey, 51, from Eastham, is accepting donations of unwanted clothing including shoes, belts, bags, socks, and underwear with the proceeds raised going toward local charities.

She told the Globe: “The shop has always been a community barbershop. You’ve got to help and support local people.

“We have people coming in for more than just a haircut whether it's for a chat or a cry due to turmoil in their life. It’s nice to know people can come in and offload.”

Tracey along with the help of Councillor Chris Carubia are accepting items that will be distributed to people in need across different countries.

Tracey said: “Since we’ve come out of Covid it seems like communities are looking after each other more.

“I’ve always liked to be involved in the community because everyone needs something, and everyone needs help. We already do a lot but I want this box to be a permanent feature in the shop.”

All proceeds raised from the drop box will go towards helping Oaklands sheltered accommodation get a defibrillator, St Mary’s Church, and local veterans.

Cllr Chris Carubia said: “Our community is so lucky to have Tracy and Ken and Alcatraz Barbers.

“They work tirelessly for those that need help, from organising food parcels to raising funding from raffles for those in need.

“I know how invaluable they are to our residents with special needs by going that extra mile to make them feel at ease in what can be for some, a traumatic event in just getting a haircut.

“I cannot praise her enough for the work she does in our community and how invaluable she is to me being so active on behalf of our residents.”
