STAFF at a Wirral farm's cafe are 'over the moon' after the venue was given a five-star food hygiene rating.

Sammy Power and colleagues at Bee at the farm café, situated on Tam O'Shanter Urban Farm in Bidston, were given the good news after an inspection on Tuesday afternoon.

The cafe has been run by Bee Wirral, a Community Interest Company created to help bring a sense of community to Birkenhead, since October.

All money raised by the charity is put back into projects supporting local people.

Cafe manager Sammy - who quit a job at McColls for the eaterie - told the Globe: "We were constantly told 'oh, you'll get a four not a five, because you're on a farm', so when we got that five, we just cried.

"Within five minutes of his inspection, we were told by the inspector that we were getting a five."

Wirral Globe:

Praising her team of 11 staff for their part in the rating, Sammy added: "It is down to everyone at the cafe. Our staff are fantastic, we couldn't fault any of them.

"Lisa is one of our newest members and, from day one, has just got stuck into absolutely everything."

Deputy manager Claire Lamont, who had previously worked at Vale Park in New Brighton, added:"The things that we've created at the cafe, from the back-of-house side of things have helped us get that five-star rating.

"Everything on our menu is coded on an allergen chart, etc.

"The inspector took one look at our 'safer food, better business pack and said 'that's spot-on'.

"Everyone here has been trained in regard to allergies.

"They understand the risks of something as simple as, for example, accidentally mixing a cake tong onto a different cake.

"Every single cake has its own individual cake tong, so nothing is cross-contaminated.

"It's great to have five-star recognition for the work that goes on here."
