THE father of Elle Edwards and comedian John May, were joined by hundreds of people today (Friday, March 10) in support of a campaign to end gun violence.

26-year-old Elle was celebrating Christmas Eve with friends when a gunman opened fire at the Lighthouse pub in Wallasey Village, shortly before midnight.

For the past 12 days, Tim Edwards has joined comedian John on his walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise awareness of the Weapons Down Gloves Up scheme – a boxing initiative aimed at taking young people off the streets and into employment.

Today, the pair arrived in Liverpool to walk from The Britannia Inn on Riverside Drive to Pier Head.

Family and close friends of Elle, former professional boxer, Tony Bellew, boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn, and Tiktok star, Ryan Hall (StillRyan) were all in attendance to show their support.

In an interview with the Globe, John said: "I decided to walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise awareness for Weapons Down Gloves Up.

"After four weeks into my journey, Tim said he wanted to join me for a day and 12 days later he's still here."

Tim added: "I wanted to get away for a bit and get a bit of headspace so I thought I'd join John."

When asked about Elle and how she would feel about the campaign and event Tim said she would be "made up".

"She would be like 'What are you doing dad? Go home and get a bath you stink', he added.

Gun violence in Wirral

As Elle tragically lost her life to gun violence, and the issue continues to be a concern across the Wirral, Tim said: "They have to choose the right path and do the right thing. Don't make that choice, it's as simple as that."

John added: "It's important to raise awareness for these kids. Someone said to me 'what's a walk going to do?' but the walk will create a message and show unity and solidarity in the city.

"Hopefully we can inspire kids not to pick up a weapon. If we can put them in a positive environment and a positive community hopefully that will make a positive future."

Before the pair set off, they thanked everyone for showing their support.

John said: "It's quite overwhelming how many people have showed up. It's just amazing.

"I've met a best friend for life but it's great to see the whole city come together to spread this message. Well done everyone and thank you."

John also confirmed that Tim has decided to join him for the rest of the walk all the way up to John O’Groats.

A man is due to stand trial for Ms Edwards' murder from June 7.

Another man has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and assisting an offender.
