A MORTGAGE brokerage based in Hoylake has teamed up with a local charity to help support homeless people.

Rhys Davidson and Kieran Woolley from Root Mortgages are working with homeless charity, Wirral Ark and are donating £10 from every mortgage deal to help provide homes to those most in need.

The pair founded Root Mortgages in 2021 and have helped more than 250 homebuyers with their mortgages. They also have gained a reputation for helping people in the local community such as offering a no-fee advice service to those working in the emergency services and first time buyers.

Root Mortgages Director Rhys Davidson said: “Kieran and I have over 15 years experience working at different brokerages and estate agents and when we created Root together we agreed that we wanted to do things differently. Our aim is to genuinely help people get the best deal and also to give back.

“We understand that buying a home is such a huge thing for people, it’s more than just bricks and mortar — it’s their dream. That’s why we offer a free advice for the emergency services staff and first time buyers. The latest idea of giving back to the homeless is something we’re very passionate about and there’s no better charity to do it with than Wirral Ark.”

The recent collaboration with Wirral Ark aims to provide people with new homes to those who have lost theirs and to help bridge the gap, providing accommodation and support for 200 people facing homelessness each year.

Wirral Ark has 11 accommodation centres and provides a bridge until people can secure themselves their own permanent homes. The charity helps those suffering with addiction to those who have been victims of domestic abuse.

Wirral Ark Manging Director Paul Hardman said: “It’s really heart-warming that there are businesses like Root Mortgages out there who genuinely care. In business and competitive industries like that it’s easy to just chase the money but these guys have decided to do something really touching here by recognising those who have lost their homes.

“We’ve been doing great things here at Wirral Ark for over 30 years now, providing accommodation, food and support. Recently we’ve been introducing more mental health support as that is often the root cause of the homelessness — in fact around 96% of homeless people have PTSD or trauma. Root Mortgages will help us help more people through these initiatives.”

The independent mortgage brokers are aiming to raise over £2,000 for the charity in the next year — equating to donations from hundreds of mortgage deals and a big charity walk in the summer.

Root Mortgages Co-Director Kieran Woolley said: This is exactly why we founded Root Mortgages — to be ethical, different and help as many people as we can.

"It’s really rewarding getting people great deals and helping them buy their dreams homes, but it’s important that we don’t forget those who aren’t so fortunate. Wirral Ark is amazing and it’s great to help with their wonderful mental health initiatives.”
