HELEN Moore Hairdressing may only have been open for 15 months but owner Helen Parry has more than 20 years’ experience in the hair industry.

Working with a talented team of eight, Helen, who is 41, believes education is a key factor in owning a successful business and she keeps an eye on new trends while building relationships in the salon.

Here, in our latest Meet The Salon Owner feature, Helen tells us what it’s like opening her own salon in Wallasey village and how grateful she is to her loyal clients.

Tell me a bit about your salon/business. What do you do? What services do you provide?

The salon offers all hair colour services ranging from classic hair colouring to the more extensive current trends. We also offer all aspects of hair cutting and styling. We have permanent and semi-permanent smoothing treatments and we also do hair extensions and specialise in bridal hair. Education is a major part of the Helen Moore Hairdressing ethos. Hairdressing is an ever-evolving trade and the team is highly experienced on current trends as well as classic hairdressing. We are constantly learning and absorbing new techniques.

Why did you decide to open your own salon?

Previously to opening in Wallasey village, I was renting space in another Wallasey salon. I have traded in Wallasey for more than 20 years building up my business to opening my own salon. I wanted to build a team of passionate stylists and help people who want to get started in the hairdressing trade. I like to educate my trainees and grow them into fabulous stylists, who then go on to have amazing careers themselves.

What’s your hair and beauty background?

I’ve worked in hairdressing since I was 15. I opened Helen Moore Hairdressing in the village in November 2021, which in all honesty, after the Covid pandemic everyone thought I was mad! But Covid-19 made people realise how much they missed and needed their hairdresser. Since then, with more people working from home and not mixing with colleagues in the office as often during the week, salon visits are extra special. We not only produce amazing hair but a visit to a salon can boost mental health and well-being.

Were you open before/during/after the Covid-19 pandemic? How did this affect your business?

Covid-19 was a terrible time for businesses but I’m always of the mindset that something positive comes out of every situation. The support local businesses gave each other was amazing. I was lucky to be nominated as a Wirral high street hero, which then in turn lead to a shop safe local campaign with Wirral Council. This was to encourage people back into our local shops and support small businesses in a safe way.

Why do loyal clients return to your business?

We pride ourselves on the relationships that we build with our clients. Communication between stylists and clients is crucial for stylists to create each client’s vision. It’s not all just about the hair - it’s also about all the little extra personal touches we bring in the salon. Our clients are in a safe space and able to express themselves openly with no judgement. To see them walk out of the salon beaming brings us so much pleasure.

What’s next? What do the next few months hold for you and your salon?

My vision for the future is for us to keep striving forward, constantly learning and developing the team. For my team’s well-being, I feel it’s essential to have away days so relationships can blossom, not only inside the salon but outside and with our families. With our best foot forward the salon is going from strength to strength every day and I’m truly thankful to each and every person who has supported us.
