A charity helping people with motor neurone disease is urging our readers to help raise funds by signing up for this year's Wirral Coastal Walk.

Wirral Motor Neurone Disease Association group intends to not only participate in this summer’s Wirral Coastal Walk - but to have the largest number walking for any one charity.

Debbie Williams, the group's chairwoman, said: "We really enjoyed taking part last year and boosted our funds by more than £7,000 but this year we want to smash that figure.

"The money raised will go towards helping those people living with this awful disease on the Wirral and also towards national research.

"Sadly on average there are 30 people at any one time locally with MND and there is a constant need for funds to help them, particularly with home adaptations as this terminal illness inevitably progresses.

"We have various fund raising events planned this year and the coastal walk is just one of them but we really want it to be a record breaker for us,” said Debbie.

"I know it isn't until Sunday June 11 but we want to ensure we hit the ground running with this - just like the walkers."

The Group’s fundraising co-ordinator Tony Swarbrick said that the group can supply MNDA tee-shirts and they can get the £5 entry fee refunded as a thank you for getting sponsorship for their trek.

"While the overall walk is 12 and a half miles long people can just do four or eight miles - stopping at one of the two control points - if they prefer and every step they take can help us raise much needed funds."

Walkers can register on the Rotary Club website and those who are willing to walk for MNDA should send details of their registration to Tony by email at mndawirral@outlook.com or via text on 07478 726 650.

A Just Giving donation page has been set up for those willing to raise money for the Wirral Group
