WELCOME to Behind the Lens, a feature that shines a light on the talented photographers in our Wirral Globe Camera Club group.

This week, we’re looking at Kimberley Phillips’ favourite photographs that were taken on Wirral’s beautiful beaches.

Kimberley, who lives in Wallasey, uses her phone to capture images and often gets soaked taking close ups of the waves.

When and why did you take up photography?

I got into photography two years ago, at the beginning of lockdown. I started to take and share photos on the local Facebook forums. I wanted to help people feel connected with nature and their favourite local beauty spots, parks and beaches, if they couldn’t leave the house.

What do you love about taking pictures?

I love showing people how beautiful nature is and what a wonderful place we live. I hope that if I showed people how beautiful Wirral is then maybe people would make more of an effort to look after it. Also, I like sharing the beauty I see in the world around us. Everyone sees things differently and my photographs show people what I see.

Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?

My favourite place to take photographs is the beach and we are spoilt for choice with the stunning coastline we have here. From the wildlife and plant life to the sea, waves and beaches, there is so much to appreciate and be in awe of. The coast is where I feel most at peace.

What is your favourite subject matter and why?

My favourite subject matter is waves. I love watching them roll and crash. I’m mesmerised by the different moods of the sea. The River Mersey is my go to place and I often end up walking home looking like I have just been washed up on the beach! As I only use my phone to take photographs, I have to get close to the waves.

What do you enjoy about being part of the Guardian Camera Club?

It’s nice to be in a group with people who all share the same passion and I also like seeing everyone’s photographs of the local area. There is some outstanding photography shared in the group, so much talent, and it’s amazing to be part of it.

If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?

It would be a very personal photograph. I would love to take a photograph of my parents with all their grandchildren. Unfortunately, my dad didn't get to meet any off his grandchildren and my mum only met a few of them. My parents would be so proud of them all!
