POLICE officers in Neston have issued a warning after several near misses on a narrow lane.

The bottom of Church Lane in Neston is often used by cyclists and pedestrians but is also used by some drivers.

On Facebook yesterday (Wednesday, January 25) the police posted the following:

"A pedestrian has spoken with us today regarding near misses, he and his family have had, at the tunnel near the bottom of Church Lane. It is really narrow there and visibility is poor.

"Can all users of Church Lane please enter the tunnel with caution and sound a warning to signal your approach.

"The road is slippy there at the moment making it difficult to negotiate the road."

'Let's keep it safe to use'

Many residents have voiced their concerns about the narrow lane on social media.

One said: "I think that motorised vehicles should be prohibited from going through there, there is no reason for them to go that way, since either end of Church Lane can easily be reached from the other direction."

Another added: "Audible warnings works for those who are not deaf. Deafness is an invisible disability. Better to ride expecting people and dogs all over the place. Walking yourself reduces your risk as a cyclist."

Another said: "Cyclists can’t read these days either never seen one dismount yet!

"Not many cars come down it’s mainly cyclists and walkers. Such a pretty spot let’s keep it safe to use!"
