A WIRRAL MP has questioned the Secretary of State for Wales on what he is personally doing to improve rail services between North Wales and Liverpool.

Wirral South MP, Alison McGovern, spoke in the House of Commons quizzing David T C Davies, Secretary of State for Wales on the Wrexham to Bidston rail service.

In a tweet on Wednesday (January 18) Alison said: "Progress on speeding up the rail service from North Wales to Liverpool via Heswall is going about as fast as the trains from North Wales to Liverpool via Heswall."

In response to the Wirral South MP, Mr Davies said he was "well aware of the line from Wrexham to Bidston."

He added: "I can assure the Honourable Lady there are a number of projects in the RNEP (Rail Network Enhancements Pipeline) proposals which will be discussed shortly by the Department of Transport."

The Bidston to Wrexham line stops at Upton, Heswall and Neston, before it begins it's journey down to Wrexham Central.

In a comment to the Globe, Ms McGovern said: "My constituents are desperate for a top-quality rail service, but they’ve been waiting for far too long.

"On the Wirral, just like everywhere else in the country, travelling by train should be fast, affordable and convenient.

"The economic links between Merseyside and North Wales are vital to both areas, due to major employers such as Airbus where many of my constituents work.

"It isn’t good enough for the Government to waffle on about ‘business case procedures’, we need improvements and we need them now."
