AN Ellesmere Port campain group are hosting a rally in support of the 'Enough is Enough' campaign, which fights the cost-of-living crisis.

'Enough is Enough Ellesmere Port' are a group of activists and community members from Ellesmere Port whose aim is to ignite a town-wide campaign to fight against the cost of living crisis which they believe is debilitating their community.

'Enough is Enough' is a national movement, founded by trade unions and community organisations who are determined to rise bills, low wages, food poverty, and inadequate housing for working class people.

The Ellesmere Port group was formed in August 2022, and hosted their first rally in October later that year.

As a campaign group, they are determined to demand better for their community, and to return power to the voices of those cast aside.

They work in partnership with life-saving community organisations in the town.

'We're powerless'

Helen Collins, Enough is Enough Ellesmere Port activist, said: "Ellesmere Port is a town built by and for working people, and yet food and fuel poverty are bringing our community to its knees."

She added: "This campaign is about empowering residents to help each other. We’re often made to feel hopeless and as though we are being cast aside by the government.

"It’s easy to feel like we’re fighting just to keep our heads above water, we’re powerless.

"We’ve recognised the power of our community coming together, and we are fighting to remove the stigma of extending solidarity to our neighbours and it being called ‘charity’: this is our responsibility as a community.

"We want to keep supporting the organisations in our town who are on the front lines of the fight against poverty and austerity. We want to make political education more accessible, we want to ensure everyone’s needs are met, and everyone’s skills are celebrated and shared.

"We don’t have to grit our teeth through hardship, we deserve more. We’re taking the doom and gloom and hopelessness of the headlines and we’re asking ourselves - What are we going to do about it?"

The rally will take place on Saturday, February 11 at Whitby Hall, Ellesmere Port, from 2pm-9pm.

There will be guest speakers, live music, and DJs.
